Answers to the 5 Most Common Questions About Scarfade

If you have sustained a burn, cut, scrape or surgical wound and you are concerned about scarring, you understandably want to do all you can to minimize the lasting effects of your wound. That’s where Scarfade® comes in, a trusted topical treatment that helps to reduce scarring thanks to the silicone gel which helps the body regulate the production of collagen.

Here are our answers to five of the most common questions about Scarfade.

Q: What kinds of scars can Scarfade be used on?

A: You can safely use Scarfade gel on scars arising from cuts, burns, surgical incisions, sports injuries and auto accidents. Many recent mothers use it on their c-section scars, and teens can even use it on acne scars.  While it is best known for its ability to treat existing scars, it is also effective at preventing scars from forming from new trauma to the skin.

Q: How does Scarfade work?

A: Medical silicone products have been around for many years in regards to scar treatment. They have been extremely successful in the treatment of scars and are a well-documented form of therapy. But they have been historically difficult to use by the average person. This has been made much easier with the advent of Scarfade gel. We offer an alternative that offers ease of use in a safe, effective format. Scarfade works by causing a favorable shift in the production of growth factors (TGF, FGF) involved in dermal regeneration, reducing the over-secretion of collagen and regulating growth factors. The result? A reduction in the size and intensity of scars.

Q: How long should I use Scarfade?

A: You should use Scarfade as directed, for 12-16 weeks or until you notice a change in the size and intensity of the scar. Apply the gel twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. Re-apply as needed if you wash the area, sweat profusely or go for a swim. A half-ounce tube of Scarfade will last for up to 300 applications on a three-inch scar. For larger scars, one and two-ounce tubes are also available.

Q: How old is too old when it comes to my scar?

A: Scars remain in the active process of healing for about two years. In theory, Scarfade is only effective during this two-year active period, but some of our customers have claimed success using Scarfade on older scars as well.

Q: Can kids use Scarfade? Can I use it on my face?

A: Yes and yes. Scarfade is easily tolerated by children and can be worn 24 hours a day. It simply washes off with soap and water and you can reapply it as soon as the skin is dry. It’s also safe for use on your face but be careful that it doesn’t come into contact with the eyes or mucous membranes.
