Scarfade works to effectively reduce the appearance of scars, but it has to be used as directed for optimal results. Here, we will outline the proper steps for getting the most out of Scarfade.
Massage it In
When you apply the scar gel, take five minutes or so to gently massage it on the skin, using circular motions, and up-and-down and sideways motions. This breaks down scar tissue and speeds up healing.
Don’t Pick Scabs
It can be tempting to scratch at scabs because they can get itchy, but resist. Each time you remove a scab, the healing process has to start all over again. Just be patient and let the scab fall off on its own.
Avoid Strain
Don’t put strain on your wound while it heals, as this can hinder the healing process and actually result in more prominent scarring. Stretching the skin can open up the wound and thus widen it, increasing healing time.
Get Plenty of Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps to heal skin wounds, preventing them from getting infected. That’s because it works to promote healthy collagen production and provides excellent antioxidant benefits as well. Choose natural sources of Vitamin C such as citrus fruits, bell peppers, tomatoes, and green leafy vegetables.
Wear Sunscreen
When venturing outdoors, cover your scars with at least SPF 15, and wear protective clothing. You may think that tanning a scar would be a good idea, making it blend in with the rest of your skin, but this is not the case. Melanin gives your skin a tanned appearance, but scars don’t produce this evenly. If you have too much melanin on the upper layers of your skin, hyperpigmentation occurs, actually making your scar more prominent.
Get Enough ZZZs
The body heals best during REM sleep, rejuvenating your skin more quickly due to all the healing hormones that are sent out. Failure to get enough restful sleep means your body can’t regenerate efficiently and scars will take longer to heal.
Re-Apply as Needed
For best results, use Scarfade every day for several weeks – usually at least about 12 weeks.
Check the Ingredients
When looking for the right scar treatment product, be sure to check the ingredient lists for silicone/dimethicone, which is the only ingredient proven to be effective on scars. Other ingredients are certainly good for the skin, but can actually dilute the scar treating silicone when added to scar treatment creams and gels.
Keep the Area Dry
Make sure you keep the area as dry as possible, as prolonged periods in water or exposure to running water such as in the shower or tub can cause the softened new skin to fall off. This, as you would imagine, will prolong the healing process.
Keep Scarfade Handy for a Variety of Uses
Scarfade is great for surgical scars, but it’s also ideal for ensuring minor cuts, scrapes, and bug bites don’t become scars. Be sure to keep a tube or two of Scarfade in your medicine cabinet just in case you need it.
